Adult Bible Fellowships

What are Adult Bible Fellowships (ABFs)?

Adult Bible Fellowships are small groups of adults who are grouped by age, gender, life stage, or various topical studies that meet together on a regular basis including Sunday mornings for Bible study, fellowship, discipleship, care, nurture, ministry, and outreach.  It is a community of people within the wider body of the church who take responsibility for the life, direction, spiritual growth, and well being of every individual in their group.  ABF's are uniquely designed as a place that people can experience the love of Christ, discover a caring church family through a sense of belonging, and connect with God through sound Biblical teaching.  In summary, ABF's are an essential outreach and spiritual growth strategy of the church.

ABF Mandate

The focal Biblical text that defines the purpose and directs the mission of our ABF's in Acts 2:42-47, which says "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.  (43) Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.  (44) All the believers were together and had everything in common.  (45) Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.  (46) Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.  They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, (47) prasing God and enjoying the favor of all the people.  And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."  (Acts 2:24-47 NIV).

ABF Mission

ABF's are our mainstream local strategy for leading people to faith in Jesus Christ and for building on-mission Christians through open Bible study groups.  We do this by focusing on the five purposes of the church.  The mission of our ABF's is to:

  • Raise-up spiritually mature believers through worship, discipleship, and fellowship;
  • Release our members to serve others through ministry;
  • Reach out to our community with the Good News of Jesus Christ through missions/evangelism.

 ABF Methodology

Our ABF's are an integral part of implementing our Biblical mandate and the purposes of the church.  The five purposes of the church are defined and an ABF objective for each one is as follows:

        Worship - Worship is bringing pleasure to God by expressing our love to Him.  It is our objective to give priority to worship by providing resources to educate and inspire individual, family, and corporate worship experiences.

        Discipleship - Discipleship is reproducing the character of Christ.  It is our objective to develop passionate, mature, obedient believers to love, trust, and obey God and to teach them how to win and train others to do the same.

        Ministry - Ministry is using our spiritual gifts to bless the church.  It is our objective to involve each church member in ministry opportunities within the church by helping them to discover and understand their spiritual gifts.

       Evangelism/Missions - Evangelism is reaching those who are without Christ.  It is our objective to train and equip our members to win unbelievers for the Lord.

       Fellowship - Fellowship is developing a dependence on God and each other.  It is our objective to promote Biblical fellowship in the church by providing a hospitable atmosphere of openness and acceptance for our guests and members.

We will continue developing, enhancing, and strenghtening our ABF's and encouraging them to develop a balanced approach to implementing the five purposes of the church.
